The fully protected plug and socket arrangement is suitable for use on vehicles for connecting facilities to trailers etc. The connections are protected from road dirt etc. and also from corrosion. The socket section (5, 9) comprises contacts (12a) in a central non-reversible socket section (12) protected by a front plate (5) and mounted on a water resistant rear elasticised holder (9). The plug part (1, 2, 6) fits over the outer section of the socket (13) and all round the elasticised back plate (9) of the socket seals against the outer (1) of the plug e.g. (10 on 11). The outer (1) of the plug is also a close fit over the central mounting (13) of the socket to improve the seal. The plug has centrally mounted connection pins (6, 6a) which extend into the contact bushes (12a) of the socket.
