The injector (1) screws into the suction manifold. It has a chamber (12) at its end in which there is a valve plate (2) with a valve opening (3) in it. A spring (4) is held between the plate and a collet (6). The collet carries a valve pin (8) which closes the valve opening until it is depressed against the spring by the entering fuel pressure. The fuel enters through a passage (13) through the injector body into the chamber (12). The passage is made as small as possible and enters the chamber immediately behind the collet with no clearance. This reduces the volume in which fuel vapour can collect.
