Diesel engine using different fuel for starting and running - has single injector delivering starting and running fuel in sequence

A low pressure pump (1) delivers diesel fuel to an injector (4). The fuel collects in a chamber (10) in the base of the injector, but it is not at a high enough pressure to open the injector needle (11) against its spring. A high pressure injection pump (5) delivers alcohol to the same injector. This enters the same chamber and is at a high enough pressure to open the needle valve. As the diesel fuel is collected first it is at the lower part of the chamber and is therefore injected first. The injector enables an existing engine to be converted to run on a mixture of fuels, i.e. a starting fuel and a normal run fuel.
