An offshore platform with three legs to rest on the seabed is floated on site after its mfr. in a dry dock. The top deck with two splayed legs form one unit which is transported in the horizontal position and has an inclined stump for attaching the third leg. The latter is floated on site on top of the rest and parallel to it, joined to it by the apex of a triangular structure which defines the base triangle at the bottom of the feet in the final position. After arrival on site, sequential flooding of the hitherto buoyant foundation tanks at the bottom of each leg and by hitching a tug boat to the triangular structure, the platform is erected. This reduces the time required for the erection of an offshore drilling and prodn. platform to a min. Most assembly operations have to be done above water level or at shallow depths.
