Measuring lengths of cables, tapes, tubes and foils - using band on rollers with friction-dependent motor control

A device measuring lengths of objects such as cables, tapes, tubes and foils achieves the required accuracy not attained by conventional measurement wheel devices because of wheel slip, measurement wheel tolerances etc. Slip is considerably reduced. For constant rotation speed it is completely eliminated. The wheel rotation counter system can be calibrated to compensate for mechanical tolerances. An endless measurement band (14) resting under pressure on the measurement object (6) surface passes around a guide wheel (13) and a measurement wheel (12). The measurement wheel rotations are sensed and used to control an indicator. A potentiometer (19) measures the frictional force between the object (6) and band (14) from the displacement of the measurement carriage (4) w.r.t. a guide (5) and controls the band drive motor (15).
