A fuel injection pump is connected to a channel (6) in a housing (1) made of soft magnetic material so the pressure of the fuel in channel (6) can be converted to an electrical signal. Housing (1) is elastically deformed by the fuel pressure; and carries at least one wound coil connected in an excitation and measuring circuit. Housing (1) is pref. D-shaped with channel (6) in the spine, and excitation- and induction-coils in the curved part of the "D". Alternatively, housing (1) may consist of a ring core contg. a transverse channel and wound with two coils. The r.p.m. of an engine can be measured by a sensor contg. no moving parts which could be damaged by shock or vibration.
