The procedure is for bringing cows to their stalls for milking in a parlour. The cows are driven into the parlour and are so arranged in individual stalls at an angle to a lengthwise-running trench, that each cow stands in each stall with its rear end adjacent to the central trench. The milking stall (2) is dimensionally matched to the respective cow (5) and the position of the cow (5) in the stall is fixed so that the udder is at the ergometrically correct distance from the trench (3).
