The circuit rapidly breaking short circuit currents has a first break point (14) in series with a second break point (32). The main current path (33) carrying the rated current during normal operation is in parallel with the auxiliary arc extinguishing arrangement (17). The second breaking position (32) is formed by electrodes (2,3) which influence the electric field. They are bridges by a moving contact pin (16). The whole is enclosed in a housing, filled with an insulating medium with enhanced dielectric strength. When a short circuit current appears, the first disconnection point opens, and the current travels through the arc quenching device (17). Only then, does the second disconnection point (32) ooen, and the short circuit current finally interrupted in the arc quenching device (17).
