Phosphatising soln. for metallic surfaces contains Zn and Mn phosphate and -nitrate and chlorate as accelerator the ratio gram-atoms of P, Zn, N and M ions to Cl ions being 5-10, 1-3, 0.1-0.5 and 0.1-0.3 respectively. The soln. is further accelerated with NaNO2 and applied by spraying at a temp. of is not 18 degrees C over a period of 1 1/2-2 mins.. Solns, are useful for phosphatising Fe of Zn surfaces. They can be used at lower application temps. and with shorter application times than prior art phosphatising solns..
