Porous grinding tools moulded from mixt. of abrasive grains - of fine silicon carbide and crushed waste glass frit, and baked to obtain vitreous bond between grains
The tools consist e.g. of honing stones or grinding wheels, and are obtd. from a mixt. of abrasive grains (I), a glass frit (II), and fine SiC with max. size 320, and pref. of size 400-600; the mixt. is baked to produce a vitreous bond between the grains. The SiC is pref. dark or green, with size 400. The pref. mixt. contains by wt. 100% frit (II), plus 50-200, esp. 100-200% grains (I), and 2-50, esp. 15% SiC. Grains (I) are pref. SiC of size 80-320, and/or high grade corundum of size 80-600. Frit (II) is pref. crushed bottles or windows, or other waste glass. Rapid and simple mfr. of grinding tools, where the fine SiC reacts with the glass frit (II) to form bubbles or pores in the prods.
