In a new procedure for the ozonisation of water and other suitable liqs. at normal pressure, the liq. to be ozonised is degassed by means of ultrasound and subsequently satd. with ozone without applicn. of pressure. Degassing is pref. performed in a device comprising a degassing vessel in the upper part of which is an inlet pipe for the liq. to be degassed as well as a gas outlet, a liq. outflow and, at the bottom of the degassing vessel, an ultrasonic transmitter attached externally to a suitable ultrasonic generator. The degassed liq. is advantageously satd. with ozone by spraying into the upper part of an ozone washer and satd. with a countercurrent of ozone produced by introducing ozone into the lower part of the ozone washer. Used for the decontamination of water and other liqs. contg. microbes, fungal/algal spores, heavy metal salts or cyanides, or having an unpleasant odour. Simple and economical procedure avoiding the need for e.g. cooling.
