Ceramic oxide cutter plate - has bore containing insert of more ductile material tapped after distortion

The cutter plate is of ceramic oxide or cemented carbide, having a bore by which a clamping member secures it to a toolholder. An insert (3) fits in the bore (2) and is of material more ductile than that of the plate (1), being secured in the bore by distortion. After distortion it is tapped (3) to take the clamping member. It can also be glued into the bore, being entirely accommodated inside the latter, which can be counterbored at the ends to accommodate beaded-over portions of the insert. It can be of heat-resistant plastic.
