The keyboard (T) is connected to the number impulse transmitter (W), and to a memory (SP). If the call fails to connect, a push button (ZI) on the keyboard can be operated to disconnect the line without causing the automatic return of coins already placed in the instrument. Release of the button (ZT) reconnects the line and, after a short time delay (VS), initiates read out of the stored number to the impulse transmitter. Alternatively the number reconnection may be initiated by the caller pressing the button (ZT) a second time. The memory is cleared by replacing the hand set in the cradle.
