The tailgate hoist for a lorry has a single support column (2) vertical at one corner of the lorry and with a pivoted guide (16) swung outwards to swing the platform (20) over the end of the lorry. The guide is inclined so that as the platform is raised it is pulled into the lorry. The platform is mounted on a trolley (18) moved up the guide by a servo motor. Tilt adjustment allows simple connection to different loading ramps.
