The adjustable couch for supporting a patient for X-ray examination is motor driven and is supported by a semicircular toothed segment for tilting about a horizontal axis. Extending in both directions from the centre are toothed horizontal racks for length adjustment. The angle and length adjustments can be carried out at the same time. The speeds of these two adjustments can be kept at a constant ratio, or the drive can be so operated that this ratio can be varied. The tilting movement can be slow at first, then quicker, and the length adjustment can be fast and first, then slower at the end of travel. The two drives can be mechanically interconnected.
