An a.c. motor with a squirrel-cage rotor has a twist configuration of the rotor winding slots and is designed for up to 50 per cent reduced revolutions to achieve stable operation both in the no-load and on-load modes. The twist of the rotor slots has approx. 1.5. up to 3 slot widths spacing and the rotor bars have high specific resistance. The stator winding damping is between 10 and 70%.
