The orientation device (A) consists of a small box made of metal or plastics having a flat base for standing on the required surfaces. The base contains a magnet for attaching the device (A) to a metal surface, and the easing also has an eye (5) for hanging it up and a carrying strap (6). The internal tone frequency generator (2) can either be battery operated or driven by a mechanical wind up spring, and the tone can be switched on or off by knobs (1,3,7) mounted on the side of the case. The sound emitted can either be continuous or intermittent, and the volume controlled as desired, thereby enabling a blind person to find his or her way around an area such as a big garden, where several sound emitters can be hung at strategic points.
