The device has an autonomous power supply unit (2), and a position detector, a photoelectric sensor (6), a pushbutton (7) and a switch (13), for ordering and controlling light emitting diodes (3) and a sound warning unit (4) e.g. horn. The unit (2), detector, sensor, pushbutton, switch, diodes and the unit (4) are mounted in a tubular case (9) that is fixed on a foldable white cane (12) of a handicapped person.
