The air-exhaust port in a rotor-type open-end spinning device is concentric with the rotor axis, and coincides with the mouth of the yarn withdrawal tube. An exhaust channel in the lid of the rotor housing connects the port with a chamber within the housing in which a suction conduit terminates. A bypass channel, closed by a flap valve which can be operated from outside the housing, short- circuits the interior end of the yarn withdrawal tube, to allow reverse-feeding of the starter-yarn to commence spinning. This construction permits a high-volume air-flow, even with small rotors, allowing the rotor speed to be increased and giving a faster prodn. rate of high-quality yarn with little fibre loss.
