A thermoplastic moulding compsn. contains (1) 1-99 wt.% of a cellulose ester of at least one 1-5C aliphatic carboxylic acid, and (2) 99-1 wt.% of a graft copolymer from (a) 1-99 wt.% of a graft substrate composed of (i) 1-99 wt.% of an ethylene- vinyl ester copolymer with 5-75 wt.% of vinyl ester, and (ii) 99-1 wt.% of a cellulose ester of at least one 1-5C aliphatic carboxylic acid, and polymerised units of (b) 99-1 wt.% of vinyl esters and/or alkyl (meth)acrylates, and (c) 0-20 wt.% of 2-4C alpha-olefines. In (2), at least a part of (i) and (ii) is bridged together through polymerised units of the graft monomers. The compsn. can be used to prepare acetate silk, block acetate, film carrier for safety film, electrically insulating films and lacquers. Very transparent, soft, flexible compsns. are obtd. The notch impact strength, dimensional stability on heating, hardness, tensile strength, flexural strength and modulus of elasticity are improved. The Vicat softening temp. is up to 50 deg. C above that of cellulose esters contg. low-mol. plasticisers. Plasticiser migration does not occur, and the compsns. can be used in contact with food.
