The room heading process is for the utilisation of the heat in exhaust gases of one or more, esp. only discontinuously working oven processes, by heat exchange. The temp. of the exhaust gas is measured, and the flow of the heat exchanger medium is controlled for a predetermined min. gas temp. The exchanger medium is heated by the gas from one or more processes, and its temp. is adjusted to a pre-determined level by addition of a cold exchanger medium. The appliance contains an exhaust gas temp. control circuit (8), with reference value input (9), a temp. feeler (10) in the gas channel (3), and a sealing element (7) in the secondary circuit (11) of the heat exchanger (4). A medium tep. control circuit (17) has a reference value input (18), a temp. feeler (16), and a controlable sealing element (19) in a feed pipe (20) for cold exchanger medium.
