The tubular absorption unit is partic. for solar heat recovery, a fluid flowing through the tubes acting as heat-transfer medium. It is in two freestanding parts one behind the other, each comprising horizontal plastic absorber tubes on vertical supports, and connected at opposite ends to plastic distribution and collector manifolds. The horizontal tubes (11,21) in both units are deflected in alternate directions by the vertical supports (15, 16) and woven together in a basket pattern. The supports can be at regular intervals between the manifolds (10), adjacent ones being joined together at the top (17) to form a stirrup, the horizontal portion of which lies on the uppermost absorber tube.
