An evaluation of several heat transfer correlations for two-phase flow with different flow patterns in vertical and horizontal tubes

In this study, the general validity of twenty heat transfer correlations obtained from a comprehensive literature review were assessed. These correlations were tested against an extensive set of two-phase flow experimental data available from the literature, for vertical and horizontal tubes and different flow patterns and fluids. A total of 427 data points from four available experimental studies were used for these comparisons. Based on the tabulated and graphical results of the comparisons, appropriate correlations for different flow patterns and tube orientations were recommended.
