Screwless contact strip for electrical socket - is bent to grip plug pin and flanged to retain locking strip for bared wire ends

The screwless contact member (8) for an electric socket is made from brass strip bent double (12) at one end, forming two parts (10,11) in contact with each other, then formed into a loop (16). The two curved sides (15) around the loop grip the pin of a plug inserted into the socket, and are flanged over at the top. The remainder of the two flat portions are also flanged outwards at the top (17,18) to form two chambers (25) into which the bared ends (22) of wires can be inserted. Inside the two chambers is fitted a spring steel strip (27) with an inverted T shaped slot (29) extending downwards. This grips the bared ends with its top edge, forcing them in contact with the inside surface of the flanged brass strip. The ends of the strip are bent upward and incorporate openings (21) for insertion of the bared ends.
