The diesel engine operating on ethanol, which is not easily ignited, has a main injector (14') and a separate pilot injector (15). The pilot injector operates on readily ignitable diesel fuel supplied through a line (24'). A high pressure fuel injection pump (16) supplies ethanol through a line (22') to injector. A plunger (33''') is located in the body of injector and acts as a pressure divider to provide a lower pressure supply of diesel fuel to the pilot injector, as in 3002851.Here the travel (1) of the plunger is adjustable.
