The X-ray appts. is intended for irradiation of a precisely defined target area. For this reason it is fitted with a radiation protection device with lead-rubber flaps (24-29) which can be swivelled from the side edge of the X-ray apparatus (7) to its lower edge. Along the side end lower edges of the appts. are secured guide rails (13,14) for the protection device assembly (16). The support (20) for the protection device consists of two pivotally connected carrier elements (21,22), which support the lead-rubber flaps. Each support element is held via two spaced guide members moving in the guide rails. With the exception of an outermost guide member (19), all these members are guided along the rail (14), secured along the side edge of the apparatus. The arrangement is particularly intended for tiltable X-ray apparatus with upper table targetting.
