An automatic sampler for liq., esp. sewage, is connected to the supply by a submersible pump with a delivery hose. Its outlet into the sampler vessel can be shifted on receipt of a signal from above a return pipe to inside the vessel. One contact is at the top of an overflow pipe which governs by its length the quantity of the sample, and the second contact is at the inlet to an outflow to a collector vessel. When the two contacts are linked by a liq. column, they cause the shifting of the supply pipe outlet and, after a time delay, the opening of a squeeze clip at the outflow. This sampler can be used even for very small samples to provide automatically the desired amt., independent of the available transport system or liq. level and is without falsification by deposits.
