Sealing material is for sealing the base of waste dumps to prevent pollution of the environment and made from a mixt. of ashes from lignite burning power stations, Rhine trass, sodium silicate and water. Commencing with a volume ratio between trass and lignite ash of at least 0.2 and commencing with volume ratio between sodium silicate and lignite ash of at least 0.01 the coefficient of water permeability of the sealing material is lower than 0.5 x 10 power (-9) m/s. The mixt. is conveyed to the site using a special vehicle with a distributing pipe which meters out the material in layers to avoid sepg. out of the various constituents. Initial mixing takes place in a double shaft mixer.
