The battery powered quartz controlled clock which is combined with a system for playing tunes, has a programmed unit which produces a series of pulses which operate a sound producing section with an amplifier driving a loudspeaker so that a tune is repeated at intervals. A multivibrator or trigger stage is connected to the input of an integrated circuit and to a resistance capacity network. Its time constant is greater than the pulse length of the pulse sequence from the RC network, but smaller than the interval of time between the tune repetitions. All these sections are driven by the battery. The trigger stage includes a transistor with its base connected by two resistances to the output of the RC network. Between its emitter and collector is connected a capacitor so that the emitter is connected to the battery positive and the collector connected to the integrated circuit input.
