Magneto-optic memory element. This is an addn. to 2911992, which described an element made of an amorphous substance with uniaxial magnetic anisotropy. The substance was made of a lanthanide, a transition metal, and tin. Now the lanthanide is Ge, whereas the transition metal is pref. iron. The memory element pref. consists of (Gd(1-x)Fe(x))(1-y)Sn(y); where x=0.6-0.9 and is esp. 0.74; and y=0.001-0.25, esp. 0.001-0.05. Increased Kerr- or Faraday- rotation of linear polarised light is obtd.
