PURPOSE:To prepare a conc. aqueous solution of acrylamide or methacrylamide stably without lowering the enzyme activity for a long time, by immobilizing a microorganism or enzyme, and by circulating the reaction liquid partly to dilute the raw material. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism (M), e.g. N-771 strain (FERM-P No.4445), which belongs to the genus Corynebacterium and has the ability to produce acrylamide or methacrylamide by hydrolysis of acrylonitrile (A) or methacrylonitrile (MA), or an enzyme (E) extracted from the microorganism is immobilized by the well-known method. The immobilized M or E is then brought into contact and reacted with A or MA in an aqueous medium continuously. The reaction liquid is partly circulated as a circulating liquid at a dilution of 2-100 based on the A or MA and water.
