A hand-operated sweeping machine has a drive roller (4) which frictionally drives a sweeping roller (6) and a conveying roller (8) which removes the swept material into a collecting vessel (10). Preferably, the point of attachment (15) of the forked handle (13,14) lies between the axes of the drive roller (4) and sweeping roller (6). All the rollers may be elastic and all of them may be elastically mounted. In particular the drive roller (4) may be of rubber, the sweeping roller (6) may have nylon bristles, and the conveying roller (8) may be equipped with rubber blades (9). The preferred diameter from the sweeping roller (6) is 1/3-1/4 that of the drive roller. In a variant, conveyor belts may be used instead of the rollers. The sweeping machine is intended partic. for road sweeping and cleaning up outdoor areas.
