Powder is in the bore of a tubular rod fed down a tube located on the axis of a stopper rod in a tundish or ladle used to feed molten steel into the mould. On leaving the bottom end of the stopper rod, rod dissolves so the powder enters the steel. Rod is pref. made of steel with wall thickness 0.1-2 mm, and with an external dia. of 10-30 mm. Wt. ratio of the powder to rod or tube is pref. min. 4:1, and an inert gas is pref. blown down tube when tube is being fed into the molten steel. Describes improvements to an earlier process described in 866061.
