PURPOSE:To enable refining in a tundish by forming a stopper rod so as to be used not only for controlling of a flow rate as in the conventional practice but also commonly for stirring by gas bubbling, addition of alloy elements, auxiliary raw materials and deoxidizing agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:The stopper rod in the tundish 1 is constituted of a porous brick 11, a special porous brick 12, an outside cylinder 13 and an inside cylinder 14. A supply pipe 15 for the powders of the alloy elements, auxiliary raw material, deoxidizing agent, etc. and gas for bubbling, a lance 16 for supplying oxygen and a supply pipe 18 for bubbling gas are provided to the central part of the refractory material. A stopper head 10 descends together with the powder and gas supply pipe 15 when a tundish nozzle 3 is clogged. The alloy element, auxiliary raw material, deoxidizing agent, etc. from the powder and gas supply pipe 15 are released as desired from the special porous brick 12 into the tundish 1.
