Audio and video recording on magnetic tape - alternating angled audio and video tracks along tape and setting associated pick=ups at 90 degrees to each other

A video magnetic tape recording system uses both angled video and audio tracks to avoid the problem of damage associated with tape utilising audio tracks along the tape edge. The angled audio tracks alternate with video tracks along the tape. The tape passes around a drum for recording and replay with audio pick-ups located diametrically opposite each other. The video pick-ups are also located diametrically opposite each other and are set at 90 degrees to the audio pick-ups. A pulse code modulated process is used for the audio signal recording to minimise the noise level.
