The base of the machine is joined by pillars to a crosshead, which is provided with weights designed to minimise the vibration of the head. In addn. to the solid weights, several tanks filled with liq. are carried by the head to aid damping of the vibration. Tanks are pref. filled with hydraulic fluid employed in appts. on the machine. The wt. of the liq. and its tanks minimises the torsional vibration created when shaping metal workpieces, e.g. plate or sheet.
