A washing machine with a horizontal revolving drum has a main shaft of double-conical form on either end of which are mounted the drum and a drive pulley, which are secured by a bolt passing along the axis of the shaft. The shaft bearings are mounted in a split bearing-block which also carries a sealing ring behind the drum, against which the rear wall of the wash-chamber is drawn by a series of fixing screws. This construction increases the life of the seal, and facilitates access to the main shaft for maintenance and replacement.
