The axle has at least one vibration damping element (20) between the armature (7) of the induction motor and the driven wheels (21,21'). Pref. the damping element (20) is incorporated in a reduction gear (18,19) coupled between the motor output shaft and the driving axle (11). Alternatively it is incorporated in a clutch (16a,16b) between the motor output shaft and the reduction gear (18,19) or it is incorporated in each driven wheel (21,21'). The vibration damping element (20) is pref. made of rubber and has a given spring vibration damping characteristic. The axle allows the constant velocity characteristics of the induction motor to be utilised to the optimum and allows the vehicle to have a high degree of surface contact adhesion.
