An automatic terrestrial or aquatic recording device measures the variation of parameters such as light, temperature, Ph, pressure etc., against time. The device includes a probe (1) sensitive to the parameter to be recorded, connected by a flexible waterproof multicore cable (3) to a recording unit (15) housed in a pressure and water proof box (16). Interface electronics are mounted in a box (2) entering box (16) at a waterproofed aperture (6). Box (2) presents on its exterior surface, a plurality of waterproof controls by means of which an operator may vary the operating mode at any time in any media. The operator may control the selection of automatic or manual operation, the rate of measurement and recording and the velocity of the record medium. a window is provided in the upper surface of box (16) through which the latest recoeded parametric levels mayb e read without distributing the device. a self contained power source (26) drives the unit.
