The coding circuit is for analogue signals using a quasi-logarithmic law, the logarithm being to base two. The system has a min. number of comparators and is based on the use of seven bits in order of decreasing magnitude of the samples of the analogue signal. The coding law is divided into eight intervals, 0 to 7, the interval of variation of the absolute value of the signal segment 'i' ranging in value from O to U, for i = O and i = 2i-1U to 2iU for i O. The values of the segment i is coded by the figures i.16 to (i + 1).16, the coding being linear within each segment.
