The hydrostatic steering transmission is fitted to a tracked vehicle and has the cylinder capacity of its pump and motors varied to match the effort required to turn the vehicle. It comprises a unit (1) fitted with a distributor (2). The hydraulic pressure inlet (4) is normally isolated from the outlet (5) feeding the cylinder (8) due to the action of a spring (3). Hydraulic pressure acts on the rear face of the slide, a chamber (10) being at zero pressure. When pressure overcomes the spring, the slide moves to the right. The outlet (6) is blocked and the cylinder (8) is pressurised and varies the cylinder capacities.
