摘要
Medicaments contg. pharmaceutical quality activated charcoal mixed with a substance to give delayed release of the charcoal, are new. The substance which causes delayed release is e.g. a fat or hydrocarbon such as vaseline oil with an emulsifier or an emulsifier or an anti-foaming agent such as dimethicane with or without an emulsifier. They are used for treatment of intestinal disorders such as aerogasria, gastropathy, diarrhoea, colitis and entero-colitis. The charcoal remains active until it reaches the intestinal tract, and it is not unpleasant to take. Typically, the medicaments contain a fat or hydrocarbon to effect delayed release. In an example a compsn. contained 100 kg active charcoal, 20 kg vaseline oil, and 5 kg polyoxyethylene oleic glycerides. This was made into tablets weighing 100-300 mg.
