A protective cover is for the adjustment access hole in the side wall (1) of the ignition distributor of an IC engine. The cover prevents the ingress of foreign material into the centrifugal advance and retard mechanism. The cover (3) isolates a central fixing screw (8) allowing an electrical connection to be made to it. The access hole has a semicircular recess (5) in which fits a mating ridge (4) in the cover. The cover is made of deformable plastics and has a central hole to take the screw, a steel washer (6) being positioned either side of the cover.
