The side hung metal cased door incorporates a decorative cladding panel which forms the visible external major door face. The panel may constitute an existing timber door which is fixed in the new metal casing, the latter comprising a pan of heavy duty sheet steel. The edges of the pan may have double square returns to form a 'U' section channel which houses the edges of the timber panel, the door frame receiving suitable steel cladding sections. A stepped 'L' section may clad the hanging post the hinge fittings being built onto the cladding section and the corresponding edge of the door casing. A flanged box section on the opposite post may accommodate the bolt staple.
