The barbed stud is used to connect superimposed panels (14, 15) sandwiching an insulating material filler (12) board, having a flat circular head (2) and a rectangular hollow section shaft (5) with arrow head barbs (3, 3a). The tongues forming the barbs cantilever from the major shaft faces, having elastic properties and being arranged in two opposed pairs at longitudinal shaft intervals. The tongues are symmetrical relative to the major axis, may have a segmental circular cross-section, and may have externally rebated (7) tips which engage the edge of the hole in the external retained panel (15). A cylindrical neck (10) with a conical taper (11) may centre the stud in the hole in the top panel (14). The alternative pairs (3, 3a) of tongues are utilised on composite panels of different overall thinkness.
