A process and appts. comprises subjecting the stream of dust-contg. gas and liq. to a large change in direction, pref. 90 degrees, by means of a system of vanes and of turning dampers by means of which the section of the flow passage can be regulated. The gas and its content of liq. drops are obliged to pass through adjustable openings existing between the turning dampers and the vanes so that it becomes intimately mixed with the wash liq. retained by the guiding vanes. The process and appts. are partic. for dusts coming from a drying installation, the quantity of which per unit of time can vary greatly.
