Flat-strand, three-layer cables preventing abrasive intersections - with core and central layer strands twisted with left hand pitch and outer layer having right hand pitch

The flat strands forming the core and the central layer of a three-layered cable are twisted in with left hand pitch, whilst the pitch of the spirals forming the outer layers is right hand. The strands forming the centre layer are crossed. Pref. the core has five flat strands, the centre layer has six flat strands and the outer layer eight flat strands. The arrangement ensures that neither the strands of the centre layer and those of the outer layer, nor the strands of the centre layer and those of the core, form mutually intersecting crossings, but have a purely linear contact. This is of considerable benefit in mining and other operations since not only is giration prevented, but the possibility of the strands cutting into each other and causing rapid wear is ruled out, so that the fibrous filling can be maintained at its normal size.
