A polarised light source is used to check the firing of objects mfd. from translucid glass. A portable instrument allows it to be taken to the production line to check the objects such as bottles in place on the line. A metallic box houses a portable polarised light source which is controlled by a switch. A telescopic rod carries a support for a filter. This allows the height to be adjusted to suit the objects being examined. The filter has a wavelength which provides a delay in the field of vision in order to obtain a violet colour. A cover in the box is located over an electrical battery with a charger.
