THE PRESENT INVENTION CONCERNS THE FIELD OF THE PRODUCTION OF METAL CHALCOGENIDE FILMS ON SUBSTRATES. /P P IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROCESS OF THE INVENTION, AN OXIDE FILM IS DEPOSITED ON A SUBSTRATE BY SPRAYING THE SOLUTION OF ' A METAL SALT IN A WATER-WATER-SOLUBLE HYDROCARBON SUBSTANCE MIXTURE. THE OXIDE FILM IS THEN SUBJECTED TO A THERMAL TREATMENT IN THE PRESENCE OF A CHALCOGEN OR A HYDROGEN GASEOUS CHALCOGENIDE TO INDUCE AN ION EXCHANGE PROCESS BY WHICH THE METAL OXIDE FILM IS TRANSFORMED INTO FILM OF CHALCOGENURE. /P P THE PROCESS IMPLEMENTED IS LOW COST. IT MAKES IN PARTICULAR OBTAINING SELECTIVELY ABSORBENT SURFACES VERY EFFICIENT FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF SOLAR ENERGY INTO THERMAL ENERGY AND IT CAN BE USED TO PRODUCE A THIN FILM PHOTOVOLTAIC DEVICE FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF LIGHT ENERGY INTO ELECTRICITY.
