Terra-cotta plant pot with diffuser plate - is made waterproof by baking at high temperature and had lower portion immersed in water reservoir

The terra-cotta vessel allows moistening of roots by a diffuser plate. It is baked at a high temperature in the region of 1100 deg. C to render it waterproof. It can incorporate a funnel (3) for filling with water and checking the level of the latter. The diffuser plate (6) can be baked at a much lower temperature, between 900 and 940 deg. C, to render it porous, its interior portion being immersed in the water reservoir, so as to moisten earth and roots by capillary action.
